Weekly FX roundup: Dow rises 2.9%

It was a rough week for US Dollar bulls with most of the majors turning in stellar returns against the Greenback on the back of heightened risk appetite. The Yen continued its impressive run against the US Dollar, extending to a third straight week of gains in which the USDJPY pair depreciated 0.83% on the week, closing at 84.31. This was after hitting a low of 83.67, a level just off the low established the week before at 83.60 which also happens to be the most the Yen has appreciated against the US Dollar since July of 1995. The Greenback was weaker against its Euro counterpart too, shedding nearly 1.22% and closing at 1.2896, a shade under the important psychological level of 1.3000. US Dollar weakness extended into equities as well, with the Dow turning in an impressive gain of 2.98% on the week. A lot of the weakness the Dollar experienced could be attributed to the continued build up of risk appetite in the financial markets as a result of improved data from the US, particularly the much improved US monthly jobs report released this past Friday.
